Trusting God

What makes a person trustworthy?

Is someone trustworthy because of their occupation or position in life? Does someone’s age make them trustworthy? These could be things we use to determine whether someone is trustworthy or not, but honestly, the only way to determine if someone is trustworthy is to take a look at their actions and behaviors over a period of time.

When we look at God’s Resume, it is hard to say that He is not trustworthy.

Time and time again He has proven that if He says something is going to happen…it is going to happen just the way He said it would. Throughout Scripture we are also given great examples of people who trusted God and were not disappointed because God came through in their situations just like He said He would.

The passion that the men and women of the Bible display is something rarely, if ever, seen today. They knew God was real, they knew He would help them through whatever their situation was, and they went about their business confidently because they understood that with God on their side, no one stood a chance against them (Rom. 8:28-31).

WHERE IS OUR PASSION TODAY? WHERE IS OUR TRUST IN GOD? It seems that somewhere down the road, we chipped away at God’s greatness. We don’t believe He can work for us the way He worked for those in the Bible. I constantly hear people saying things like,

  • God can’t help me find a job.
  • God can’t save our marriage.
  • My situation is to petty for me to involve God.
  • God can’t fix my relationship with my kids.

Why has this happened? Why do we think God can’t help us or that He doesn’t want to?

God has not changed. He is the same God he has always been. The God that David, Moses, and Paul prayed to and heard from is still the same God we interact with today. We have changed! We’ve grown impatient, prideful, and practically faithless. It might sound a little harsh, but our view of God rarely matches up to the view of God we see in the Bible. We claim to have faith, but “when the stuff hits the fan” we worry and look for someone or something to blame instead of putting our faith in God and relying on Him to pull us through.

I feel that these are things we need to think about and examine in our own lives.

Do we trust God?

Not just saying we do, but actually living like we do. I encourage everyone to take steps towards putting more faith in God. God wants to be the most important thing in our lives and He should be. If you are struggling with something…take it to God. Ask for His help. Be willing to let Him help. Pray for guidance, for clarity, and for strength. He’s standing with His arms out…waiting for you to transfer the weight to Him.

Try it…devote a situation to God and pray for His help and see what happens.

Faith=trust in and reliance on God.

Prove you have it by living a life full of it.
