What is God’s Role in Your Life

What is God's role in you life?

What is God’s role in your life?

What role does satan play in your life?

I’m realizing more and more that my relationships with people are greatly affected by how I view people.  If I view a person positively, then more than likely, I have a positive relationship with that person.  If I view a person negatively, then more than likely, I have a negative relationship with that person.

Makes sense, right?

I was listening to the radio on the way to work the other day and the DJ’s were talking about the roles we give Jesus and Satan in our lives.

They talked about how many people view Jesus as someone who is going to punish us and get angry with us because we sin. We tend to only think about Satan for the major “bad” things in life and we forget how sneaky and dishonest he is.

Satan wants us to slip up in every area he can get us to slip up in. He wants us to believe the lies that God is an angry God that focuses only on our wrongdoings and holds all of our sins against us forever!

If God designed it, satan wants to destroy it. Satan wants to destroy our marriages, our friendships, our perception of ourselves, our perception of other people, the list goes on and on. His goal is to blemish our view of God. He wants us to view God as our enemy. He wants us to believe that God is watching, waiting for us to mess up so He can punish us.

This just isn’t the God we learn about in the Bible.

as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
Psalm 103:12

When we repent of our sins and we truly know God and have a relationship with Him, He releases us from the bondage of our sin. We have God’s role in our lives mixed up. He isn’t our accuser…He is our advocate…our friend…our Father!

God’s role in our life is that of an Advocate

The word ADVOCATE means “a person who pleads for or in behalf of another; intercessor.”

God wants to fill that role for us.

He is on our side, ready to talk with us through prayer and help us through every step of our lives. He wants us to come to Him when we have sinned. He knows every struggle we have faced and will face and He knows how to help us through the difficult times in life.

Even now my witness is in heaven;
my advocate is on high.
Job 16:19

We need to switch our view of God…BIG TIME!

God is the God of Love…not the God of accusing/punishing people!

First John 4:8 tells us that “God is love.” Further on in verse 1o we are told what true love is…”This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

God wants to redeem us and pull us out of our sin, not punish us for them.

He sent His ONLY Son so that we would have a way to remove the sin separating us from Him. That’s how bad God wants to be close with us/have a relationship with His children.

We can’t be forgiven and released from our sins if we don’t take them to God. Satan would rather have us fear God and live in our sin, leaving us depressed and angry believing lies about our wonderful Creator.

God wants us to come to Him for anything and everything. He doesn’t want to punish us for our sins, but He loves us so much that He leaves that choice to us. We can either come to know God and repent, or we can continue carrying sins we don’t have to.

Do you see God as your advocate or your accuser? Why?
