YMC011:  Motives Matter.

In this week’s episode hosts Gene and Jon Abercrombie discuss the heart behind our motives. As the most recent YMC blog post Motives Matter explains, our motives matter to God because they expose whether we are working for God or for ourselves. Eventually, selfish and sinful motives produce selfish and sinful behavior. Gene and Jon suggest how to practically assess whether or not your motives are pure, and provide several helpful scripture references.

Loved this episode!! One of the things God has really put on my heart is that I can PRAY for a clean heart. Psalm 51:10 says “create in me a clean heart, oh God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 139:23-24 says “Search me, oh God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.” And lastly, Colossians 3:17 says “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” I use these verses often as a check in my spirit. I am not capable of creating a clean heart in myself. My motives are never pure. BUT…God can search my heart and know my true motives and then create in me a clean heart so that everything I do is for Him and in that I can always be thankful. He knows me and He works in me to have a pure and grateful heart with pure motives.
